Glacier Flightsee and Trek

Helicopter glacier flightsee and trek Juneau Alaska

Take off in a turbine helicopter, soaring over the glaciers of the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Icefield. The scenic terrain of mountain peaks, glacier icefalls and crevasses is revealed through the extraordinary visibility of the helicopter. The blue of Alaska’s glacial lakes is unsurpassed.

Touch down and your glacier experience begins. Spend two hours on the ice with a professional glacier guide teaching you basic mountaineering skills and the proper use of your equipment. Your guide will lead you on an interpretive hike that is both adventurous and easy. You will discover remarkable glacier features as you experience the magic of this landscape.

No experience necessary, though you should be physically fit and able to walk over uneven surfaces. You’ll spend 30 minutes in helicopter; 2 hours on glacier. You will be outfitted with rain and wind-proof jacket and pants, gloves, hard shell mountaineering boots, crampons, gaiters, harness with karabiner, ice-axe, and helmet. You’ll be fully prepared to safely and comfortably hike into areas of Southeast Alaska’s glaciers not normally accessible. A hip-pack with tissues, a granola bar, and bottled water will also be provided.

Enjoy sweeping views of the massive Juneau Icefield and Tongass National Rainforest on your helicopter flight to base camp. Upon landing, there is an emphasis on learning the proper use of mountaineering gear and understanding the glacial features and hazards so that remote areas of the glacier can be accessed during the trek.

This is your opportunity to explore some of the Juneau Icefield’s most pristine areas that few in the world will ever get to witness. No experience is necessary, however, guests should be prepared to hike on uneven, rolling, and sometimes steep terrain for two hours.
