Whale watching adventure, Juneau Alaska

A short motor coach ride takes you to scenic Auke Bay where you’ll board a 10-40 passenger boat specifically designed for wildlife viewing. You'll get to the whale’s feeding grounds quickly and stop along the way to observe and photograph marine mammals in their natural environment.

Your experienced captain guides you through the island-studded waters of Stephen’s Passage. Super-sized windows allow excellent viewing of our rugged Alaskan scenery and abundant marine and wildlife.

Against the majestic backdrop of the spectacular Chilkat Mountains and glaciers of the Juneau Icefield, the on-board naturalist will explain the behavior and habitat of wildlife you may encounter; including humpback and orca whales, Steller sea lions, Dahl’s porpoise, harbor seals, bald eagles and Sitka black tail deer.

Watch bubble nets being created as humpbacks round up herring and take turns eating them by the hundreds. Look closely at the picture and you’ll see the few that got away. Remember, on average a herring is a foot long.

Definitely a “must do” Juneau activity.

Various trips available to fit your budget and desired experience. Factors that affect pricing are time on the water (from 2 to 3.5 hours), the boat size and the number of people on the vessel. You choose the experience that is right for you.
